Business: Trade Show Market Analyses
Students are expected to have already determined what information they need on the market
they wish to compete in, as well as how they are going to obtain this information. Examples of
market information students may wish to gather might be:
- What is the typical characteristics of the consumers who would buy the product/service I am
selling in my Independent Business Simulation? ie: age, income, profession, interests,
concerns, etc.
- Who are the competitors producing a similar product/service to the one I am selling in my
Independent Business Simulation?
- How many consumers are willing or able to purchase the product/service I am selling in my
Independent Business Simulation?
- What is the most effective price for the product/service I am selling in my Independent
Business Simulation?
- How prevalent is the problem/desire (or any other motivating factor) which would encourage
someone to purchase the product/ service I am selling in my Independent Business
Simulation?
Objective:
Students must gather and/or compile their market information. Students have the opportunity to
create surveys, survey students/teachers in the school, gather secondary research data via the
Internet, or even use the Net to gather primary research via email. Students can also conduct
focus groups in which they present their product/service to each other in order to obtain
first-hand opinions and input.
Once students have gathered and compiled their market data, they must prepare the data for
presentation to the investors at the trade show. Students must present this data using one or
more of the following graph styles:
- bar graph,
- line graph,
- circle graph (pie chart), or a
- pictograph
