Friend: a person whom one knows well and is fond of; an ally, sympathizer, or supporter.

Purpose

To analyze our group relationships in the hope that we might make them more positvie, productive and rewarding through increasing our appreciation of the intrinsic value of friendship, support, and trust.


Activity 1: Analyzing the Attraction


Think of your group of friends for a moment. What is it exactly that attracts you to this group? Why are you all friends?

Write down the top five reasons why you choose to remain a member of this group of friends.

Here are some possible reasons that you might like to consider:

  • comfort

  • companionship
  • confidence

Future Observation


Try this...

The next time you are talking with your group, observe how long you maintain your attention on any one individual. Does the conversation constantly jump from one person's perspective or story to another's?

Experiment with trying to see how long you can talk with your group without making yourself the subject of the conversation.

WARNING: This may be far more difficult than it sounds!
