Chicago Manual of Style Citation GuideIntroduction
In the Chicago Style of citation, your sources of information can be cited in the body of your paper using parenthetical citation. This means that the author's name, the year of the author's work, and, if applicable, a specific page number is provided within parenthesis at the conclusion of a cited sentence. When using the parenthetical style (also sometimes referred to as the "scientific style") you would produce a bibliography at the end of your paper that lists your resources in alphabetical order by author's name. The parenthetical style does not require footnotes, end-notes, or a list of works cited. All citations are referenced to your bibliography. Below you will find several examples of bibliographic entries, along with their associated parenthetical citation. More examples of how parenthetical citations are presented within text are available for you to examine.
