Topic: Criminal Definitions and Concepts

Purpose:

During this class, students will examine the categories of crime and criminal law. In addition, the class will analyze the definition of crime. Students will come to understand the relationship between criminal law and morality as well as what is meant by “criminal conduct.”

Crime: Any act or ommission, the doing of which is an offence under federal legislation.

 

Teaching Strategies and Evaluation:

In groups, students will examine the case of R. v. Hamilton, pages 280 - 281. The groups will then summarize parts of the brief, while also providing arguments for and against the court's decision.
