Investor: Hi! I would like to make my money work for me.

Broker 1: Ok. Would you like to invest in mutual finds or stocks?

Investor: Well I’m not sure. I have no idea what the difference between a stock or a mutual fund is. Could explain it please?

Broker 2: Well I’m not sure how to explain what the difference is. You see, I’m new here. Ms. Crupi, would you please call Ms. Leung down.

Secretary: Please give me a minute, Ms. Samji, I am having trouble getting through to the TSE down stairs.

Broker 1: Well we now have some time to kill until Ms. Leung gets here. I will do my best to start to explain the difference between a mutual fund and a stock. I know for a fact that a mutual fund is much safer than a stock because the company that invest your money, puts it into a fund that has many stocks.

Broker 2: This means that if one of the stocks goes down, you will not suffer such a great loss because the other stocks are doing well. This broad base is known as a fund. Mr. Damji, meet Mrs. Leung. She is the head of Midland Walwyn.

Boss: It’s nice to meet you Mr. Damji. We hope to make as much money as we possibly can for you. We offer the best return on investment in the entire country, and if you find a better company, we will beat it by at least 5%. Ms. Crupi, would you please call Mr. Egberts down from my office and would you ask him to bring one of out Trimark brochures down please.

Secretary: Just one moment ... he will be down in a couple of minutes Ms. Leung.

Boss: I am sure that Ms. Samji already told you that mutual funds are much safer than bonds, but they do not give you as good of a return on investment as stocks give you. I suggest that if you do not plan to invest tens of thousands into stocks, you should invest in mutual funds. A very good mutual fund is the Trimark Mutual Fund. It has American companies in it. The only disadvantage of this is that you have to invest in Canadian mutual funds first if you want to buy the Trimark Fund. I suggest that you buy the Trimark Canadian Fund. It is also doing quit well, but not as well as the Trimark Fund. Here is Mr. Egberts. He has the brochures that you arer looking for.

Boss’s Secretary: Here Ms. Samji. I have a magazine here called the All Canadian Mutual Fund Guide. It has all of the latest prices of the Mutual Funds in it. I heard from the guys down stairs that the Trimark Canadian Fund went up five cents to $21.47, but the Trimark American fund went down three cents to $17.79. Good luck, Mr. Damji, on picking the correct mutual fund.

Investor: I think, Ms. Leung and Ms. Samji, that I will buy one hundred dollars worth of the Trimark Fund and five hundred dollars of the Trimark Canadian Fund. Thank you for all of your help.
