Lesson #18: Employment Contracts

Objectives:

During this class students will examine master-servant agreements which outline the relationships between employers and employees.


Method of Instruction and Evaluation:

In a socratic lecture, the class will review the following points included in most master-servant contracts:

In addition, the minimum requirements specified by the Employment Standards Act will be analyzed. These requirements include:

  1. payment of Wages:

    1. minimum wage,
    2. overtime pay,
    3. vacations,
    4. holiday pay

  2. maximum hours of work,

  3. pregnancy or parental leave, and

  4. notice of termination of employment

Using the resources presented within this lesson plan, students will divide into groups of approximately 5 students each. Each group will then develope a contract regarding a specified job.
