Topic: Green Tech Firm Presentations

Objectives:

Students will make a presentation to the class on their Canadian green tech company. 

Method of Instruction and Evaluation Exercise:

Students will make a presentation to the class on their Canadian green tech company. Based on the presentations, students will rank each company for their position within our class Green Tech Fund.

Each 8 minute presentation must address:

1. What the company does and how long the firm has been in operation.

2. Where the company is situated (headquarters, manufacturing facility)

3. An analyses of the firm's last two years of operations (i.e. Common-Sized Income Statement)

4. An analyses of the firm's last two years of asset / debt management (i.e. Comparative Balance Sheet)

5. Cash Flow Statement

6. An analyses of the firm's stock history:

7. What issues have been affecting the company's stock value over the past year?

8. What future events might impact on the profitability of the company?

Financial Analysis for Decision Making

By the end of this course, students will:

– evaluate the role and impact of accounting information in decision making;
– analyse the financial status of a company (e.g., liquidity, solvency, profitability) by using horizontal and vertical analysis;
– analyse the financial status of a company, using financial ratios (e.g., turnover ratios, book value, earnings per share, times interest earned, return on assets);
– prepare and analyse cash flow statements (i.e., statements of changes in financial position);
– use information technology to conduct financial analysis.
